Getting started

Install it, find the options, learn the keys. Five minutes.

Install

  1. Subscribe on the Steam Workshop. Steam downloads the mod and keeps it up to date.
  2. Start Necesse. The mod shows up in the game's mod list on the main menu - make sure it is enabled.
  3. That's it for singleplayer. To play together, the server and every player need the mod, on the same version. Running a server? See Server owners.

After each update, a panel shows you once what the new version added. You can also read it any time on What's new.

Every feature can be switched on or off. On the main menu, before you join a world, click the yellow [ SAFE HAVEN ] button in the top-right corner.

  • A search box finds an option by its name.
  • Options are grouped in the same 9 categories as the feature list.
  • Options marked [S] belong to the server: on someone else's server, theirs count and yours are ignored. All the others are yours, wherever you play.
  • Save, then restart the game - changes take effect on the next start.

Played an older version? Your game keeps the keys it already had, so a key may do something else for you. Check Settings > Controls.

The Builder Menu

Press ` (the key left of 1) to open the Builder Menu. It holds most of the building features:

  • The Build Menu - a searchable catalog of everything you can build. It hands you the item from your inventory or your settlement's chests, and can craft it for you.
  • Area placement from 1x1 up to 5x5, and the Shapes menu.
  • Grid Mode, a planning overlay of tiles and chunks you can draw on.
  • The Builder Eraser and Replacement Mode, to clear or swap walls, floors and terrain in place.
  • Copy & Paste with Undo, Redo and Move, the Saved Blueprints library and the server's Public Blueprints.
  • The Drawing Menu, to paint tiles in any color.
  • The Sorting Room, a ready-made storage room for your settlers.

On most servers, building tools only work inside a settlement you are allowed to build in.

Your settings file

The first time you start the game with the mod, it creates torvians-qol.cfg in your mods folder. Every option is listed in it with a short description, and the SAFE HAVEN menu edits the same file. To edit it by hand, close the game first.

After an update, any new options are added to the end of your file automatically, with their descriptions. Your own choices are kept.

Languages

The mod speaks 11 languages and follows the language you pick in the game: English, Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Spanish. The translations were made with the help of AI.
